Oatmeal Glass

just one more picture from my parents house....
this is their kitchen window. The pretty green glass used to come as a free extra inside of oatmeal boxes.

When I was young, one of my jobs when I shopped with mom, was to shake the oatmeal boxes. Mom prefered to get the glasses and bowls instead of the little plates. So I would shake the boxes until I heard one make the sound of a round glass hitting the end. They sounded different than the plates.

The green glass came with oatmeal before I was born though,

all the oatmeal glass when I was young was clear with star designs in it. Mom has some the that clear oatmeal glass in the bottom right corner.

  1. Very cool. I remember they used to put cups in oatmeal boxes for a while. They were plastic though.

  3. That was in an oatmeal box??? How pretty all that glass is. They just don't make glass like that anymore.

Tell your mother a big hello from me when you talk to her next!

  4. Yes, Heidi, green glass was in oatmeal boxes. I thought it amazing back then and still do. Asked our Mothers, aunts, whoever to save for me. And, Rhonda, am amazed of your memories of oatmeal glass. Dear Heidi, still read your blogs and as I've told you before, you do exquisite handwork! Just can't keep up with you. My Bernina is in the shop and how I miss her. Keep coming to my sewing room and no "Bernie". Our children called my dear sister Bernice "Bernie" which is why my sewing computer was given that nickname. A big, big Texas hello to you in faraway Holland, land of the beautiful tulips. Rowena
