I've been keeping my ribbon in this little suitcase. For years it worked just fine, but lately it has been so full, it is hard to close and really hard to see just what is in it.
Jen at Lipstick and Laundry has 2 great posts about ribbon storage - one in a thrifted magazine rack and the other about ribbon wrapped on wooden clothespins.
Pretty messy, huh?
I stopped at Dollar Tree and found these pins for $1 for a pack of 20. I used 2 1/2 bags. You will probably need more than you think.

It still looks messy in the picture, but trust me, in real life, it is neater and way easier to see what I have. And the lid shuts easily too.
Small ribbon wrapped on clothespins in a gallon jar.
The clothespin method works great for narrow ribbon, but I did not like the way it worked for wide ribbon. Anyone know a great method for storing wide ribbon?
Jen has some really fun posts, you should read about the gypsy chicken currently residing in her back yard!
I love the suitcase to cute!
ReplyDeleteIt turned out GREAT, and now I think I will keep my original rack for larger ribbon and use the clothespins for the smaller... Now I can have the best of both worlds!! Thanks for sharing!! I am currently having a chicken coop built for "Pico Pica"... ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat way of making more room!! Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Hi Rhonda,
ReplyDeleteI love your jar with the clothespins/ribbon, very cute idea.
I've seen pictures of craft rooms where the ribbon seems to be hung on dowels or some type of dowel rack (it's openly displayed and can be used on a whim). Not everyone has the ability for a craft room so that may not work for you.
I store wide ribbon on old toilet paper or paper towel rolls- tape the end to the roll and wind! Paper towel rolls are best because you can store more on them. Hope this helps!
