works in progress

This has been one of those weeks of getting things organized and projects started. I feel like I've worked really hard but don't have much to show for it, so I'll show you all the things in progress.
I got fresh blueberries at Aldis for just 99 cents a pint. I like blueberry muffins but Jeff does not and I really like fresh muffins. So I am trying making muffins and freezing them before baking. I found lots of ideas on line for freezing muffin batter, and am hopeful they will turn out.
I loosely used a Martha Stewart recipe but used less sugar and swapped out part of the white flour for whole wheat flour. My plan is to just bake a muffin or 2 in the toaster oven when I want something sweet for breakfast. I'll let you know how they turn out.

I have lots of fabric and it just seems to keep increasing. At the beginning of this week, all 5 of these shelves were full to the top of fabric.
My plan was to just cut out some more squares for potholders. But then I saw a postage stamp quilt on Brenda's Cozy Little House
so I just kept cutting 2 inch squares. I think I cut out enough for at least 2 quilts and all the potholders I want to make.

I like making string quilts so I just kept sorting and cutting fabric. I just about filled up 2 big gift bags with strips.
I'm guessing there are enough strips in these bags to make at least 3 or 4 quilts, maybe more.
I also cut out lots of base squares to sew them on.
I sewed 2 string squares so far. I usually sew the strips on the diagonal but these 2 are sewn straight up and down and I think I like this way too.

While I was cutting, I cut out a new handbag for me and a polka dot skirt that Nina requested.

Then I remembered the yo-yos.
I have a sack full of mostly red and green yo-yos in Christmas-y prints. My mom gave them to me, I think she said an older lady at their church made them but never set them together.

So, I 've been playing around with them. I cut out some more Christmas fabrics that are mostly white and will make white yo-yos to set all these yo-yos together with.

So, I think I've started enough sewing projects to keep me busy for quite some time now!
Now I'm going to hand sew some white yo-yos while I watch TV with Jeff.

  1. Your stash makes me jealous! I used to have a big one, but it didn't make the move with me from Washington to Cali. Can I live through you and your projects vicariously?

  2. Hi Rhonda,
I make muffins for Dave and freezer them. What I do is baked them. Then wrap in Press and Seal. Then Put them in a ziploc bag in the freezer. The night before I take one out and in the morning he will microwave it for 10 seconds and they come out so hot and fresh.
You are like me I have many projects in the works too. I love seeing all your quilting projects. I don't rememeber if I told you we have a son in the Army stationed in OK at Fort Sills.
    Hugs,

  3. I'll be interested to hear how the muffins turn out! Great idea!

You have enough sewing projects to last through many rainy days! :) Don't you just love quilts? I should make one with all of my scraps.

  4. Wow. It looks like you've got a head start on lots of Christmas presents. I have no idea how to quilt (I got really poor grades in the sewing portion of home-ec) so for me this is impressive.

  5. I have never made a string quilt. I don't know why, since I was always given to "patchwork" quilts without a real pattern. (To me that really bespeaks the pioneer days. I never really liked matchy-match quilts.) But I have lots of squares and this and that I've cut out for quilts that who knows if I'll ever get around to making. Hope they don't end up in some generic garage sale when I'm long gone! I truly enjoyed sitting in front of a good TV show and just cutting out whatever fabric was in the basket! I want to see your quilts! Oh, I'll have to show you my yo-yo pillow front I made and attached to muslin.

  6. My Daughter, Your Mom stitched the yo-yo's (a lady from church who did not sew cut them out for me - just to keep her hands busy and she so enjoyed the pretty fabric)! I sewed the circles into yo-yo's on a Lake Dardanelle trip while your Dad caught the channel catfish. So the well-traveled yo-yo's have been in Texas, Arkansas and now in Oklahoma. Have fun - by the way Mrs. Delaney moved to a far better place several years ago...thanks for the memories. Love You, Mom

  7. I am going to follow your frozen muffin dough with interest. I love blueberry muffins but we always eat too many then. Speaking of which, I am going to make some this week for Jos now that you mentioned it...lol.

Love all your quilt projects. You have many going and they look fun. I have 2 inch squares to make a postage stamp quilt too but was going to do it with a quilting friend and she still has not come for hers so it sits here. Where can I see the quilt you mentioned? I did not see it on the blog link. I am thinking of doing one with a border only on the top and bottom with some applique work on them.

That is a treasure to have all those yo-yos. I see your mom says she made them. What a great mom you have.

Now about that fabric stash...I wish my stash was down to that amount. Yikes! I do have tooooooooo much. I started on my quilt studio today. I rehemmed some lace curtains and have to do the other curtains now. I am now placing my desk by the window so the curtains have to be shortened. I am going to (try) be ruthless and get rid of about 1/3 of my stuff. I just have so much that I could not use it all if I turned 300 years old.

    Hugs ~
